In this session, Aker Solutions will present our advancements in subsea substations and subsea collectors. These technologies, which have been vital in O&G over the past years, now offer transferable solutions to Offshore Wind, significantly enhancing the transmission design of these installations.

Energy Pathways

EnergyPathways plc (AIM: EPP), is an energy transition company developing low carbon integrated energy solutions in the UK. It plans to develop its flagship project the Marram Energy Storage Hub (MESH), an integrated energy storage operation combining natural gas, hydrogen, and compressed air technologies. . It is located 15 km off the Lancashire coast and near to the industrial and high population centres of North-West England and North Wales. 

The MESH is being designed as a zero emission, fully electrified facility powered by the abundant regional wind power generation capacity of the East Irish Sea region and CCS using repurposed existing gas infrastructure. Once operational, MESH will initially produce the low emission natural gas contained within the Marram Gas Field before transitioning into a large-scale fully integrated energy operation, with a storage capacity of up to 20 TWh, equivalent to 7% of the UK current electricity demand. The facility will be able to provide UK with a secure and dependable supply of low-carbon energy to the UK market for over 25 years.

Aligned with the Government’s energy transition objectives, the MESH project can play a major part in contributing to the UK’s 2030 net zero ambitions, and beyond.

MNZ is a one of the UK’s largest proposed carbon storage projects, repurposing the Spirit Energy East Irish Sea assets to store nearly 1 billion tonnes of CO2. This ambitious project has completed initial stages of engineering as well as development of its carbon storage licence to the extent that it is one of the most mature licences in the UK. TAQA

Since acquiring its first North Sea interests in 2006 and assuming operatorship of those assets in 2008, TAQA UK has played a significant role in the UK offshore oil and gas industry.  

Today, the company’s portfolio puts it at the forefront of late-life operations and decommissioning. In 2022 TAQA UK executed one of the largest infrastructure removal projects in the UK North Sea with the removal of the Brae Bravo platform. Production ceased from its four Northern North Sea platforms in 2024 and from the Brent System Pipeline, which the company had operated since 2008. Production continues at its three Central North Sea platforms, which are expected to cease production by 2027.
